Let me introduce you to Alice . . .
"Without God? I'd be dead."
Who is this courageous woman named Alice Iris Fisher?
She could be anyone’s daughter, sister, co-worker, teacher or neighbor.
I call her best friend.
The Alices of this world pass by us every day.
They appear reserved and work behind the scenes.
They don't draw attention to themselves.
Perhaps, like the Alice I knew, they carry a secret.
If the truth of their secret comes out, they might be vilified, not believed, punished or—killed!
Alice carried a dark secret for years.
It wasn’t just the trauma of the horrific, unspeakable deeds she suffered,
but the results of trying to cope with such evil.
How did Alice cope?
Her mind shattered into multiple personalities to bear the weight
of the shame, guilt, and anguish of evil that was forced upon her;
the atrocities she witnessed,
and the repulsive deeds she was forced to carry out.
Alice lived behind a carefully constructed façade
by day, and took great satisfaction in activities that brought her joy.
Children were precious to her.
She tutored them, championed them onto greater things,
and comforted those who were bullied.
She rescued critters-her cats and dog, her furry kids.
She had a heart of gold; blessing strangers and friends alike with unexpected home-made treats, gifts, and hand-crafted cards for all occasions.
She gravitated toward the loner, the misfit, and misunderstood.
Their pain was her pain.
“Look around. Pay attention to the quiet ones;
they want to be noticed, loved, and valued.”
If you weren’t fortunate enough to meet Alice,
it’s not too late.
She invites you to know her and the One who helped her
on her personal journey from hell to wholeness in . . .
Part 1 ~ THE EARLY YEARS
Alice discovers monsters are real and one lives in her home-her own father! What do monsters do when they prowl around at night? Buckle up and bring a light as Alice’s journey takes you into some dark places.
But, don’t fear-there’s a thread of hope and faith that Alice clings to until she’s old enough to escape.
Part 2 ~ TOO MANY ME'S
Alice is on her own, fled from the physical control of the Monster, but soon learns that emotional escape isn’t as easy. Her horrific early childhood trauma causes her mind to shatter into twenty-one distinct personalities-Alters or Parts. Her organized, rational life by day stands in stark contrast to the heart-breaking anguish and self-loathing that surfaces at night. As she tries to navigate college, career, and a social life, triggers open deep wounds and lands her in the psych ward due to self-destructive behavior. She courageously confronts a Dissociative Identity Disorder diagnosis and moves towards uniting the Parts
closer to healing and wholeness.
Part 3 ~ THE FINAL BATTLE
Years of psychological and art therapy, miraculously transforms Alice’s life. But as her mind heals,
her physical body breaks down resulting in a dire diagnosis. She fights her battle
with prayer and shows us how to live through the Valley of the Shadow of Death.
Part 4 & 5 ~ REFLECTIONS & RESOURCES
What’s it like to be a friend to someone like Alice? To provide therapy for her? To minister to her as a pastor? What is it like to be close to someone who has a complicated and layered life as the result of horrific trauma imposed on them against their will? Six individuals, who were close to her and knew most of her secrets, share their individual perspectives. A Reader’s Guide features questions to help individuals process Alice’s emotional story-useful for facilitators of book, counseling, or therapy groups. A Resource Guide provides access to hotline and on-line resources for those who need further help. Each trauma Alice experienced
is listed and alphabetized for your convenience.
